A STEAMER GOES DOWN.
THE CREW SAVED. [PRESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received May 23, 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 23. The steamer Kirkfield, from Christmas Island to Kobe, phosphate-laden, struck a shoal at Palawan Passage. The crew strove for seven days to keep the vessel afloat, but she sank. The crew reached Balabec in boats, after a trying journey of 31 hours.
