A preliminary meeting to consider the formation of a branch of the Church j of England's Men's Society among the local Anglican community was held at . the residence of Dr Maclagan on Wednesday evening, there being twentythree men present, which included nine visitors from the Eltham branch. The matter was discussed, and a resolution to form a branch of the Society here j was carried. The annual harvest festival service will be held in the Church on next Thursda y evening. At the close of the service the inaugural meeting of the Society will be lield, when opportunity will he given for all 'those who desire to become members to enrol as such. i The committee of th<* Horticultural i and General Produce Society met on Friday evening to wind tip affairs in connection with the recent show. The Secretary presented his report and bal-ance-sheet, which was adopted. The former pointed out that the last display had been the most successful held yet, except financially, the weather conditions having been responsible for failure in that resect. The exhibits had totalled 954, being an excess of 209 over the previous year. The total expenditure had been roughly £88, £15 of which had been devoted to the acquisition of permanent assets in the shape of show boxes, etc., the balance of £73 being the actual working expenses, as compared with £62 in the previous year. Prize money was £40 in 1909 as against £48 in 1910. The actual loss on the running of the show was £5 ss. The total properties of the Society are now valued at £22, and they commence the new year with a credit balance of a little over £5. It was decided in connection with next year's gathering to secure two shields for competition — one for the cut > flowers and the other for the farmland garden section. The Secretary intimated his intention of getting o\it the new schedule the first week in August. A recommendation that the Society hold a spring show was brought forward for consideration at the annual meeting in June. It was resolved that the next ptitumn show he held on February 16, 1911.
