ELTHAM,
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A series of contests was started last night between two teams of men belonging to the Eltham Fire Brigade to see which team shall represent the brigade at the demonstration to be held in Auckland next month. The No. 1 'team (consisting of Firemen Cook, Taylor, Cooper, Brown, and Robinson) is the team which, was originally selected by Captain Nuttall. The selection was not favorably received by another section of the brigade, and as a result a challenge was issued and accepted to hold a series of five contests to see which team should make the trip. The challenging team consists of Firemen Burrows, Burke, Hayward, Fake, and Clark. The two contests decided last night resulted in favor of the No. 1 team, who scored two points in the three men event and two points in the two men event, against one point in each event scored by the challengers. The other events are to be decided tonight.
