Victoria's first innings closed for 468. Ransford made 182 and McAlister 108. Seven bowlers were tried to break the partnership. Then Barnes was put on. He brought about a collapse of the Victorians, quickly securing four wickets for 19 runs. Finally he had six wiokets to his credit for 59.

In the follow-on innings Armstrong is not out for 66 and Smith not out for 20.

CLEM HILL WILL NOT JOIN THE TEAM.
