RESCUING A MINER.
A DIVER'S SKILFUL WORK.

In rardei to reach the entombed miner divers had to make their way from the 900 feet level through the water, down a ladder-way to 1000 feet, then proceed 300 feet along the level, and 30 feet up a rise to the top in which Vaaischetti is imprisoned. Hughes, a miner used to diving, volunteered to assist the regular divers brought ' to do the work. Hughes at Ms third at- ' tompt succeeded in Teaching the entombed , man after a hard struggle The rise was almost blocked with mud. ; Varischetti was intensely surprised when ' the diver emerged from the water and supplied him with food. j An attempt will be made to get Varis- 1 eihetti out in a diving dress. i ! ! ; : j (
