COMMENTS BY THE" CHIEF JUSTICE.

WELLINGTON, March 19.
The Chief Justice was interviewed re garding the work of the Native Land Commission, and stated that it had investigated an area comprising many blocks., amounting in all to 121,000 stores, almost aU in Havrke's Bay. The Commission had prepared reports on all the blocks, and he hoped to forward them to the Government on Wedresday or Thursday. So far they had reserved 25,000 acres for commercial purposes, 12,000 acres; for individuals for farming purposes, and 35,000 acres for {easing tjo natives, while the land available for general settlement (leaving out Waimaiama) would be about 20,000 acres. If Parliament sanctioned rhe recommendations of the Commission considerable Maori and Euro Dean settlement would follbw.
