At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and various businesses, to consider tie proposed reciprocal treaty, it was jresolved, "That this meeting, while agreeing that a reciprocal customs treaty deal-, ing ' only with, natural products migfct | with advantage, be arranged botweeh Australia and New Zealand, it is nevertheless strongly of opinion that the present', proposed treaty should Tie rejected on Uic ground that no advantage to Now Zealand worth speaking about is likely to accrue* in consequence of it, while at the same time some of our important New Zealand' industries will be imperilled, if not actually destroyed, by toe operation of the tariff.
