HARVESTER DUTIES' DEBATE. ANGRY SCENEsTn THE HOUSE. fPKISS ASSOCIATION.! {Received September 7, 12.35 a.m.) MELBOURNE, September 6. There was an angry scene in the Hou^e over the Harvester duties. " - Mr Poynton, a South Australian Labor member, characterised Sir W. Lyne's ac-, tion in making the value of harvesters £65 as monstrous. It was an unmitigated and brazen thing to do, and the proposal ought to be scouted out of the House when the Tariff Commission had fixed the value at £38. He advised Sir W. Lyne to admit !he had made a mistake and withdraw it. Sir W. Lyne indignantly repudiated making 4 mistake, and accused the Tariff Commission of so bullying witnesses that they had been afraid to give evidence. He declared the Commission was consequently unable to get the true value 6f harvesters. This statement brought a storm of denunciation from members of the Oommiesion. In the disorder which followed, Sir W. Lyne threatened to smack Mr Kelly, and was called bo order. The storm subsided as suddenly as it arose, and. the debate is proceeding.
