(From Our Own Correspondent.] All tihose Who took such an interest in the prepalrations for the Association rep.' game yeateocday were disappointed that the weather <sii©uld be so' bad, on match day and so beautiful the day after. It was moat unfortunate. -The match was played j here to excite an interest in tih© new game, but the small attendance was given ,» nattier poor exhibition. Botfh sides were weak, j Arakland were playing- a numbeir of junww men, and the visitors reckoned tfoafc the Taranaki team was the worst for some years. A. petition is being circulated and largely signed by settler's ih<"thie district protesting against both the proposed Eltham and Wadtmate North counties. — -Mx- DiHy- haar completed Ms arrangements and is now well settled here as a cabinetmaker, etc. He has a nicely selected stock, and has had numbers of orders i' besides many enquiries from new settlers. He was very popular up this way. Mr D. Kelly unfortunately met with rftther a nasty accident this afternoon. He was high up on a ladder in the hall taking | down flags. Hhe floor is very smooth ' and tine ladder ' slipped. Mr Kelly coming down with it and apparently landing on his head, which suffered a nasty jagged cut. He was carried home urconscious. bub regained hia senses before long. September 5.
