NAUTICAL ENQUIRY.

AUCKLAND, September 5. The nautical enquiry into the wreck of the brigantine Defiance, at Kaipara Harbor, opened to-day. The captain i©f the vessel stated that just as he was about to make the fifth tack going up the harbor the wind failed, and a current which he had not known before carried the vessel in-shore, the anchors failing to hold the 'vessel. He further stated tihat he did not see any danger signals made by the signalman.' At this stage the enquiry was. adjourned for, the attendance of the signalman.
