A SATISFACTORY BUDGET. [PBSSS ASSOCIATION. 1 (Received September 6, 12.17 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 5. The Treasurer submitted: a : highly satisfaotory budget to-night, showing oreceipts £12,283,082, expenditure £11,395,242. Be. venue shows an increase on the estimate of £994,782 and the expenditure aa increase of £117,333. After making certain statutory payments to meet .the Treasury bills, a ■sunplus of £846,124 is carried forward. For the first time in the •history of the State there will he earmarking of land eailee' [revenue for substantial* and permanent Works amd over £900,000 will be applied to that purpose ibis year. Relief <t6 taxpayere ' will be affordied in various ' directions. Punte And ferries, which handicap the, producers to the extent of £5000 annually, will be abolished, and' school 'fees involving £80,000, will' he abolished. ' Railway fates will save taxpayers £150,000, and penny postage will give an advantage of £50,000. ! The Treasurer stated economy, combined with a eplendid 'season, had made finances exceptionally buoyant. Not only had Governmental services paid for themselves, but business undertakings have in every instance paid their working expenses. Railway revenue amounted to £5,051,944, working expanses and 1 interest) on capital, £4,616,305. Loan expenditure was exceptionally low, and the position indicated (that we were nearing the day when we ootdd say "Good-bye to the British lender." The estimated! (revenue for the cmnrent year is £12,030,555, and the surplus £1,444,000.
