A motion in favor of the passing of the Fire Brigades' Bill was rejected for the following amendment: "That in the opinion of this Conference Municipal Councils are bodies- whioh should retain the management of Fire Brigades, and it will be sufficient if Parliament decides thafc insurance companies should pay part of cost of the maintenance of fire brigades ; that clause 60 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1900, be amended to enable insurance companies to take part in the management of -the 'brigades.
