HOSPITAL RUCTIONS.
An extraordinary state of affairs in connection with the Waihi Hospital is reported by the local paper. For some weeks past there has been friction between certain members of the staff, and it culmin ated in a remarkable scene last Sunday night. The Telegraph say 6 : The matron, in company with Dr Craig, returned to the hospital at 10 p.m., and found affairs in a certain amount of turmoil owing to a dispute between Charge Nurse Worsley and Charge Nurse Doherty. The latter, who was going on duty, declined to accept a verbal report from Nurse Worsley, insisting that tihe report should be written in a book provided for the purpose. The refusal led to an argument, which ripened into a wordy warfare, and expressions were used whidh we are given to understand were unparliamentary. At this stage it [ was deemed advisable to despatch a message for the Chairman (Mr T. Gilmour), who in due course arrived. Dr Craig then rang up Dr Clairidge, informing him that neither the matron nor "Nurse. Worsloy would resume duty. Dr Clairidge, before proceeding to the hospital, called on Messrs Donaldson and Sleven, members of the Hospital Trustees. Both gentlemen were in bed, but at his request they turned out and accompanied him, arriving at the institution a little after 11 o'clock. The nature of the dispute was explained, and heated argument ensued. Nurse Doherty j declined to make any apology to Nurse Worsley regarding her refusal to accept the latter's report, but she would certainly tender an apology for the words she had subsequently used, admitting that she was wrong in using them. However, this did not meet the whole case, and further argument was indulged in by all parties. The Chairman was inclined to compromise, but the other members thought the time for conciliation had gone by, and the matron gave one of the ttnembera what is sometimes termed 'a piece of her mind. 1 Thii3 matters went on till the hour of midnight." The outcome of the dispute is that the. matron and Nurses Worsley and Price have left the hospital, and that Dr Craig has removed his patients.
