MONARCH WHO RISES AT FOUR AND

GOES TO BED AT EIGHT.

The Emperor Francis Joseph, who is in his seventy-sixth years, still rises every rooming, summer and winter, at four o'clock, writes the Vienna correspondent of the Expes3.

Hia Majesty shaves liimself. and by five o'clock has made Ms breakfast of coffee and milk with a roll.

For the next three hours he is engaged in dealing with the arrears of the previous day's work, when, he has a mild cigar, costing three half-pence. Strong ones, which were his favorites, haver now been forbidden him.

His Majesty remains at his desk till twelve, when lunch is brought to him on a tray. It consists of one meat and vegetables and a . tankard of Bavarian beer, out of which only one long draught 13 quaffed. Lunch does not take more than twelve minutes.

At half-past twelve the Emperor takes a drive to Schoebrunn, where he takes dinner — another frugal meal consisting of soup, two sorts of meat, and a dish of sweets, washed down with two small glasses of Austrian wine.

The Emperor takes all his meals alone, except when he is at IsoM and dines with his family.

Directly the dinner is finished, his Majesty sits down again at his desk, and goes through, the papers, local and foreign, reading not only the political articles and news, but the local reports, and art and dramatic criticisms.

At a quarter to eight the Emperor retires, disrobes, and on the stroke of eight is between tho sheets.
