EDUCATION BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of ilia Education Bjard was held last eveninp, Messrs Pirani, Lethbridge, Spurdfe, Dixon, Baker, Adams, Haselden, and Rev. J. Ross being' present. In the absence of x the Chairman, Mr Pirani was voted to the chair. Regret was expressed at the Chairman's illness, and consequent absence, and leave" was granted him. School Buildings. — Resolved to apply Lo Jie Government for a further advance of £2000 on the grant for school buildings.
A ppointments. ~ Hawera.— Miss Nellie Hmley appointed Jitpil teacner, -in place of Miss A. McLaug.'ilin, transferred to Eli ham. Mangamingi. — Miss' Dustow. appointed temporarily. riimitaiigi.— Mr F. C. Raikes appointed to open school. Kaponga.— Miss E. Clmistie's resignation accepted. Leave. — Leave of absence was grant»d to Miss E. M. Rowley, College Street District High School; Miss M. Cleary. Rawhitiroa; Mr H. M. Pavne, Hawera; and Mr W. E. Herd, Raetihi, Hautapu.— Mr T. Kelly's resignation was accepted.
General Business. Rotokare and Fraser Roads.—Application to be made for a grant to build a school to accommodate 60 pupils, and settlers are to confer with Mr Dixon as to a suitable site. Mokoia. — Application for grant to be made when information received. Wanganui Boys'.— With reference to . roquest made by Mr Aitkenfor another inquiry to be held regarding the report v . i¥? .^'^.^spector on Wanganui Boys' District High School, it was i-e-solved to inform Mr Aitken that Ihe Board declined to reopen the question. Quarterly Returns and Repoi&s.— Resolved to inform teachers in charge of schools that all reports and returns must be sent in to the* office within five days after the last day during each quarter on which a school is open. Feilding Athletic Club.— Resolved to extend the Board's patronage to the sports meeting, at which a challenge shield and medals are offered for competition among school boys. & Mokoia.— Applications from Mr HWs and others for establishment of a school promising at least 25 scholars. Resolved! That Mr Dixon get further information with regard to site, etc. - < i Jlawara.— Resolved. 'That the Deparf:nent be again urged of the necessity of supplying science apparatus for science room. Okaiawa.— Letter ■ received re painting. Resolved That th 1S matter be referred to the Building Committee for their favourable consideration. Mangatoki.-The tender of Mr Higgm, £1 B 5s o f ? r addlfclo »s to school, accepted! The Secretary stated that the cost of postage was £90, telegrams £25. lhc Board then adjourned.— Chronicle.
