The Government cemmercal agent at Capetown, writing to the Department of Industries and Comm roe, states; that the Cape Railway Department has sent an Older to New Z aland for a trial ship* ment of timber. He is hopeful of a; large trade in timber being done. "Hfttlio states that there is a good detnaiuf at Cape Town for New Zealand* poultry V~ which betas a r nigh reputation for ex* cellence. This" trade, with proper atten* tion, could be made to assume large pro* portion!*. ,He further suites that New Zealand buter has secured the reputation of being the best on the market. At ope time it was impossible to persuade merchants to take butter from ihir, colony, but all this has now altered. Argentina has, however, secured the bulk of orders, the ruling price for Argentine being 10 5-8J per pound c.i.f., the quality giving satisfaction.
