WAIMATE ROAD BOARD.

The first meeting of tho new board was held on Tuesday. Present : Messrs Borrie, Bridge, Powdrell, Hastie, and Hurley. The olerk took the chair, and called for nominations for the position' of chairman for the ensuing 12 months.

On the nomination of Mr Hastie, seconded by Mr Powdrell, Mr Bridge was unanimously elected. . Mr Bridge took the chair,

MANGA WHERO ROAD.

Robt. Gibson wrote in a peremptory strain, calling on the chairman to have the bridge on Mangawhero Road at tended to, and other matters.

The foreman reported that timber has neen ordered for repairs to the bridge, and the'work would be attended to Bbortly. FOREMAN PF WCRKS' REPORT. Main Sputh Road ; Messrs Reynold. Bros, have completed thejr contract for the delivery of 200 yds sbinglp. Tbe surface men are now employed breaking same, Manaia Boad: Formation of Bide tracks. Owing to the very unsatisfactory state of the weather, very little progress has been made. Since the 4th inst., tbe work has been gone on with. With the exception of a few chains, side tracks are now formed between Kapuni _ and the Stratford' county'a boundary. The plant will be available for works authorised on the Sutherland road during the week, : I am pleased ip state that 4urjng the past wecji the work is proceeding more speedily than hitherto, owing to more labor being available for this kind of work. During the late heavy ruins, which flooded ' all rivers and creeks, some to their utmott oarrying capaoity, I am pleased to report that no damage has been done to either* bridges or culverts, and very little to the roads. It is> absolutely necessary that tbe roadß should be under the control of one of tbe local bodies above mentioned, as dual control is not advantageous to tbe roads in question.

The report was received. Resolved, That the Egmont County Council be written to stating that this Board

is willing to administer matters in connection with the boundary roads (i.e. Auroa and Oeo) conditionally that the Egmont Council contributes half cost of maintenance of same. (Hastie — Hurley.) Moved, That tho Foreman be authorised to continue construction of present ditch on Neil Road to the next creek east, a distance of 5% chains. (Hurley — Bridge.) Amendment, That the matter in dispute as between S. Eissiok and the .Board as regards the ditch on Neil Road he settled by the Chairman and loreman. (Hastie — Powdrell ) The amendment was negatived, and the motion put nnd carried. PENALTY.

Reßolved, " 1 t W. Humphries be notified that the Board will enfore the full penalty in connection with ooutraot No. 2, Rama Road." (Powdrell— Hurley.)

MITCHELL BOAD.

Reeolved, "That the foreman expend amount to credit of Mitchell Road in metalling when convenient." (Hurley-Habtie.)

MANAIA ROAD.

Resolved, " That the chairman and foreman be empowered to keep the Manaia Road (southern) in order during the winter." (Eurley— Hastie.) The usual accounts were passed for payment, and tbe Board rose at 1 p.m.
