The Rand Chamber of Mines in considering the offer of a Japanese syndicate to supply one hundred thousand Japanese miners. Although General Ben Viljoen selected a Mexican locality for irreconcilable Boers, himself settles in South Africa. Ho considers the outlook at the Cape hopeful, and adds that if officials adopt the Home Government's admirable policy, the hatred engendered by the war will soon disappear.

Frank Goddard was sentenced to twelve years' hard labour at Johannesburg for waylaying and robbing a Customs officer. The facts of the case were cabled on March 7th. An accomplice of Goddard's was sentenced to ten years for throwing- pepper in the eyes of the officer.
