A somewhat peculiar account was (says the loglewood Record) presented for payment, by one of the borough workmen, at last night's 'meeting of the council, the final entry being, "Four hours' waste time running after jou'." There didn't appear to be any special certainty as to whom the " Ton " meant — Foreman or ChairmanyOf Works Committee, bat as the latter repudiated the soft impeachment there was only the Foreman left to carry the four hours' waste. . Probably if all the boroughs' employees were to be, at all times, equally honest as to their occupation more " waste time " would be found, in their monthly sheets than is at present allowed to appear.
The Cambridge Road Board is in an almost unique position, for at the present time there is not one farthing owing to it, the whole of tho rates, arrearn, and the 10 por cent, penalty having been /Collected. This demonstrates the excellent training received by the ratepayers under the late clerk, Captain MoPherson. or they would not have paid up so well. At the election held on Saturday there was only one who oould not hare voted through his rates noc being paid, and h« discharged his liability that evening. — Waikito Argon.
