IMPRISONMENT FOR DEBT ABOLITION (Mr Seddon)

Provides that after the commencement of tbe Aot no person shall be arrested or imprisoned for making default in the payment of a sum of money. The exoep. tions to the rule are five:—(l) Default in payment of a penalty; (2) default in payment of a sum recoverable summarily under the Justices of the Peaoe Aot, 1882, or tbe Magistrate's Court Act, 1893; (3) default by a trustee or person acting in a judiciary capacity; (4) default by a solicitor in payment of costs in respect of misoondoct as an officer of the court; (5) default in payment for tbe benefit of creditors of any portion of a salary or income which a Bankruptcy Court may order. Tbe Aot is not to affect tbe provisions of the Bankruptcy Act.
