FOOTBALL.

Tbe Appeal Committee of the New Zealand Bugby Union has (the Wellington Post reports) come to a decision on two points of considerable interest submitted to it by the Poverty Bay Bngby Union. In the first, the Poverty Bay Union had ordered to bo played over again a game in which it was found that one side had been playing muoh of the time with sateen men. The Appeal Committee holds that the Poverty Bay Union was right in its action*. The second point was as to whether the practice of picking up the ball in a scrum with the knees, introduced by the English team and Warbriok's native team, is illegal, and if so, what penalty should be imposed. A majority ot the Appeal Committee have found that tbe practice is not illegal provided the ball is not touohed with tbe hands, and that there is, therefore, no penalty. The above will consequently be tbe rulings in the matters mentioned.
