In the first spell Hawera forwards played splendidly, rnnning over the visitors, bat two or three opportunities of scoring were lost by bad play on the part of the backs. The Star backs, however, were playing faultlessly, and their qciok kioking nullified all Hawera's forward rushes. Stars were forced several times from scrams almost on their line. * The first score for Stars was obtained by E. Humphries, who received a long pass, and bis speed enabled him to run round Hawera's baokß ; and shortly afterwards' from a nice piece of passing L."Allen pot I over. Neither tries were converted. In I this spell the score was added to by L. Allen potting a fine goal and Lining obtaining a try, which was converted, the score deing 15 .points to nil. In tbe second half Stars were very aggressive for a portion of tbe spell, and L. Allen, Ryan, and Hammond scored tries, none being converted. For tbe last quarter of an hour rHawera bad the best of tbe play, and M. Goffey scored a try, which was not added to. The game thus ended in a win for Stars by 24 points to 3. In the first spell A. Goffey (who was playing a fine game), gob his shoulder badly hurt, bat played out the spell with his arm in a sling. In the second half, however, Hawera had r 'to play .without him, which weakened the team considerably. Tbe Hawera forwards played a sterling game, Livingston, the two Bakers, and Greig being perhaps the most , noticeable. J. Winks, Lncena, and T. Goffey were the best of the backs, the letter's splendid collaring saving Hawera several times. Byan, 0. Allen, Standish, and O'Carroil we're the best of the Star forwards. : All the" backs played well, A. Humphries at centre-half being a boat in himself. Mr Ge. Syme, Jan., acted as referee to tbe entire satisfaction of both teams, and was cheered at tbe termination of tbe game. Messrs J, Campbell (Hawera) and A. Cleland (Stars) were,
