F ♦ - .._ - A meeting was held on the 15th, all the members present. The clerk read the result of the election, which was as follows : W. Ji Wells 63, C. MoHardy 55, E. Maxwell te. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. Mr Maxwell said he did not consider the board had to elect a chairman, aa the chairman elected when a new board was elected held office for the term of two years.— Mr Qane Baid he read the Act— sections 31 and 51— that it was imperative to elect a chairman annually. —Messrs McGloin, MoHardy and Wells gaid they put the same construction on the sections quoted by Mr Maxwell as Mr Gane.-rMr Maxwell said he had his doubt still, and if Mr McGloin was reeleoted it would remove any doubt. — Mr Gane would not give in that they were only re eleoting Mr McGloin, as he contended that it was imperative to eleot a chairman.— Mr Morrow- proposed Mr MoGloin, Mr Maxwell seconded. ~Mr. Gane proposed Mr Welle, as a protest against j the arguments of Mr Maxwell. Mr MoGloin was eleoted, Mr Gane dissenting. COBEESPONDENCE. ' Telegram read from Mr A. Bayly, saying oulvert on Stent road had caved in. — Reßolved to repair at onoe ani devote dES which was voted for other works on that road, towards the cost. Besolved to pay Mr Edmonds when contract is completed. Overseer reported on the complaint mede by Mr Fleming re gravelling on Cape road. He found the metal was of ,fair quality, and ha had no alternative but to pass the work.— Beport adopted. Mr Wells moved that the olerk write to Land Office for full particulars of all reserves set aside in this district, except ednoation. He detailed at leDgth the losses the district was sustaining through Bach not being dealt with. Mr Dew attended re Tipoka road, etatiDg that his two-horee team had got stuck with 60 gallons of milk.— A vote of £1 was voted for repairs. Mr Morrow Bftid the Manibi road was bad. On the motion of the chairman was voted for bird poison. The matter of bye-laws ia to be dealt With at next meeting. Accounts amounting to £38 11s 4d were passed for payment. Defaulters rate list shows sums from £13 183 to Is, the total being £28 11s 7d. The board adjourned.
