WELLINGTON, May 8. The Queen v. Scott was argued in tbe Court ot Appeal.. The Crown is suing Scott for an instalment of rent due on a run taken up by him on bebalf of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, about which there- were previous aotions, the result being tba-t Soott confessed judgment. Tbe questions raised are: whether the surrender was made and acoepted, and whether the Crown must not take further steps required under tbe Land Act to deolare the run forfeited. Counsel for defendant have abandoned the claim, and the, .surrender was laccepted. Sir E. Stout' and Mr Skerrett for tbe Crown ; Messrs Bell and Chapman for the defendant.
The Governor has received a cable from Lord Hopetoun, sympathising with Mr Ballance's death.
