In the House of Lords, Lord Onslow asked for a return showing the colonial bills wbioh had been vetoed, and naming the principles in them which were rejected, but afterwards legalised. A promise was given that the return would be furnished. In the Honse of Commons, Sir H. Vevsey Tbompßon, member for HandsWorth, moved a resolution in favor of bimetallism. Mr E. W. Beokett, member for Whitby, moved a negative amendment, whioh was carried by 225 to 148. Mr Gladstone, who took part in the debate, paid the Government had no scheme for remedying tbe divergence in the value o gold and silver. Messrs Balfour and Goachen and Sir Henry James voted with the minority, while Mr Chamberlaini Lord Churchill, and the members of the jmti-Pamellite seotion supported the amendment. Tbe B.c.
