THE PANAMA CANAL AFFAIR

(per press association.) PABIS, January 11. The trial of r* n members of Senate and Chamber oi Deputies, authorised by the respective Chambers, has been abandoned, owing to the insufficiency of the evidence, and the only prosecutions that are to be persevered with are those against the directors of the company and MM. Baibaut and Sausbroy. Charles De Lesseps, for tbe information of tbe Judge, stated that Beinach wanted 15,000,000 francs, but only received 6,000,000. The directors of the company were not aware how tbe money was applied. Baihaut demanded a urilHcm francs for introdncing the Panama Canal Lottery Bill, but only received 400,000 francs. The Judge expressed amazement at Leeseps' admissions and reproached tbe directors for deceiving the public. '<
