The Colombian Government insists that the Panama Canal Company shall pay its debt of £320,000 without delay.

M. Ferdinand de Leßseps, on being informed of the arrest of Charles de Lesseps in connection with the Panama Canal Company disclosures, was deeply moved. He declares that politioal in. trigues ruined the company. M. Floquet intends to resign. The arrest of four members of the Chamber, including a former Minister, on charges of bribery, has been sanctioned.

Prince Waldemar, of Denmark, tbe Czar's brother-in-law, is reported to be a candidate for tbe Frenoh throne in tbe event of the overthrow of the Republic. M. Lookroy advises France to adopt tbe American system of Govesnment.
