CAIRO, January 3. A fierce battle was fought at Ambigoe between the Dervishes and the Egyptian troops. The latter were repeatedly charged by the Dervishes, who lost very heavily, and eventually beat a retreat. One British officer and 45 Egyptians were killed.
CAIRO, January 4. Later particulars of the engagement show that Egyptian cavalry surprised the Dervish cavalry and infantry at Ambigol Wells, the latter being greatly Buperior"in numbers. Fierce hand-to-hand fighting took place. The loss ora British side included Captain Pyne, of Dorsetshire Regiment, and one Major of Egyptian troops. Fifty of Egyptian oavalrymen were left dead on the field. After their defeat the Dervishes fled southwards.
