BUTTER MARKET.
John McNairn and Co., of Glasgow, writing under date, the 20th October, say : —Bntter. — Since our last, our expectations
have been realised, and Danish butter today is selling at 135^- to 137/- with a prospect of a further rise in to-day's market. With the strong prices for Danish and Irish, the lookout for Colonial is better
than ever, and we anticipate realising for . the very highest quality due in about two to three weeks from now, 128/- to 132/, and for dairy bntter 112/- to 116/- according to qualify; it is quite possible if the dairy batter were very fine, 120/- might be made for it, but it all depends on the quality of the goods. Cheese.— Distinctly firm in. price, in fact we might say the tone is upward for Canadian and States cheese of September make, the value of which to-day is 54/. We again hold ont our former statements with reference to the prospect of the New Zealand article, and anticipate realising as high as 58/- to 60/- for the ' first two or three months of the season. Buyers are already asking when they will be here, because last year they gave great satisfaction. We had lovely weather this last two or three weeks, and the harvest is now being quickly gathered in, in outlying districts, bnt in the north of England they have had terrible floods, this last ten days, with a great quantity of the crops being washed away, consequently the farmers •re/grumbling in that district very badly.
