Mr. James Gordon Bennett, proprietor of the New York Herald, will probably be appointed United States Minister in Paris.
A convention, sitting at New Orleans, passed a resolution favoring the Nicaragua Ship Canal, on the ground tbat it would double trade, lessen the distance by sea between New York and San Franoisco by 10,000 miles, and attraot the Oriental trade.
