(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DTJNEDIN, November 29. The Dnnedia Jockey Club were unfortunate in tbe weather for the first day of the Spring Meeting, rain falling from 5 a.m. till 3 p.m. Only about 2000 were present. Tbe sum of £4070 was put through the machines, as against £6957 last year. Results :—: — Spring Hurdles.
ma^yia ... ... ... ... w, v. Maiden Plate ; 1J mile 3. Wolsoley 1 Six others ran. Won by three lengths. Time, 2m 18s. Dividend, £3 9s. Otago Cup of 500 soys ; second horse, 60 soys; third, 30 soys. One mile and a half. Mr. W. Rathbone's br m Merganser, 4yrs, by Nordenfeldt — Albatross, 8.3 (Donovan) 1 Messrs. Hobbs' br b Prime Warden, syrs, by Apremont — Miss Eate, 9.2 (Lindsay) 2 Mr. G. Hunter's bl m Cynieca, 6yrs, by Apremont — Nautilus, 9.3 (Colello) 3 Merrie England, Dilemma, Tempest, and Wyvern also ran. Prime Warde.n bung at the post. Tempest went off with tbe lead, Cynisca and Merganser being next. Prime Warden joined the leading division and led past the stand, with Tempest, Wyvern, and Merganser following, Dilemma last. Rounding into the straight, Merganser took the lead, and though the whip was taken out to Prime Warden he could not ioot it with the mare down the straight, Merganser winning comfortably by two lengths, with Cynisca a fair third.
