PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.
(SPECIAL TO BTAE.) , , WELLINGTON, September 22. Mr. McGuire to-day presented a petition froth Donald McGregor, Opnnake, and 56 other ratepayers praying that tbe land between the South Road and the Foresc - Beßerve, bounded by the Tongatariyriver south and Stoney river south, owrred by native grants under the West Coast Settle. naents Reserves Act. be opened for settle- ' ment. Enquiries from members of both parties in the House elicit the impression that no native legislation whatever will be passed this session. It is well known that the Hons. Cadman and Carroll are in disagreement over tho cardinal points of native policy, and the native member of tbe Executive has introduced two Bills— the Equitable Ownerß . Act 1 1&86 Amendment Bill and the Native Committees Apt 1883 Amendment Bill — which are in direct opposition to the Native Minister's Bill. . Niofle of them are expected to be pressed., Mr. Cadman still expresses his intention of urging Parliament to pass tbe Validation of Titles Bill, but it is now so late in tbe session that hopes of it becoming law are very faint. Several members of the Government) .party stbte that if Mr. Cadman does not make an' effort and Bhow Home backbone he will get no one to follow him agaiDi The Dairy JBill provision that Inspector may require the owner of cows to have < milk tested w,as struok out. Unimportant amendments were made in tlla Mining Companies Act Amendment, ' and the Local Bodies Loans Act Amend* ment Bills, which were put through Com* mittee without amendments of any importance. Ihe House rose 1.55.
