PATEA.
(FEOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
The Presbyterian picnic came off on 17th inst. in the Hall, the weather beinjr too wet for outdoor games. The teacherß did all in their power to nmuse the children, and all appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. I nnflerßtand tbat Mr. W. Finches baa purohaaed the brick yard of Mr. White, with a view to carrying on the business in connection with hiß profession in Wanganui. The lecture by Rev. Mr. Beecrof t on Monday proved most enjoyable, and it has seldom been our lot to hear such choice and appropriate language or Bee such vivid pourtrayale of life in London as thoße displayed by Mr Beecrof t. We hope ere long to have the pleasure of Mr. Bescroft's London experiences. The school committee has nominated Rev. G. Wilks and Messrs. Fry and Oarßon to the Education Board. The mortgage of £450 on the English Church has now been paid off, mainly through the efforts of Rev. Mr. Clarke. Mr. Derrett's donation of £100, Mr, Pharazyn's of £25, and Mr. Clarke's of i-40, as also the sum of £55 raised by the ladies, went a considerable way towards the amount, which all the church people readily supplemented aB far as they could.
