The appeal of Mr. Jasper Pyrie, M.P. for Waterford W., who was sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment for inciting resistance to the sheriff, was successful, and the conviction was quashed. Wilfred Blunt, who was defeated for DeptforJ seat, will contest Dublin election. LONDON, April 25. In the House of Commons, a motion, censuring the Irish judges for increasing the sentences of those sentenced for inciting resistance, was rejected by a majority of 54. In the House of Commons, the motion of Alex. McArthur, that the Government be requested to support the efforts taken by the colonial Governments to suppress the sale of alcoholic liquors to the natives in the Pacific Islands, was adopted. St. PETERSBURG, April 24. The St. Petersburg journals are complaining of the mussing of troops on the frontier by Austria. ROME, April 24. The Pope has instructed the bishops in Ireland to order the clergy to abstain from taking part in any illegal meetings in that country, and also to avoid connection with any secret or political societies. PARIS, April 24. The Municipal Council has passed resolutions condemning the attitude and demonstrations of Boulanger, and has agreed to vote confidence in the Floquet Government. The students of the city have discontinued their demonstrations against Boulanger. The Comte de Paris approves of the proposed revision of the Constitution, and states that Monarchy alone will guarantee order at home and peace abroad. WASHINGTON, April 24. Mr. Phelps, United States Minister in London, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States vice Morrison R. Waite resigned. Hon. Mr. Endicott, Secretary for War, will succeed Mr. Phelps as United States Minister in London. A motion has been submitted to the Congress, requesting President Cleveland to procure autonomy for Samoa. BERLIN, April 24. The Emperor continues to improve, and J is getting much stronger. On the arrival of the Queen, he warmly welcomed her.
