PATEA.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) In my last I made a mistake in stating that in the case Borough v. Jones, the verdict was for defendant; it should have been " for plaintiffs." It is rumored tbat retrenchment (so far a<* Patea is concerned) is to be effected by the removal of tbe clerk of the court here, tbe bailiff performing the duties in the meantime with weekly attendance from Hawera. It ia also rumored that the Crown Lands Department will be removed. Tbe crops have suffered considerable damage by the late heavy weather, but otherwise look extremely well, so far as yield is concerned. January 23.
