PATEA.
(FROM OUfiJ)WN CORRKSPONDBMT.)..; The formal openiajs, for this 'season,^Bf the Lawn Tennis Club took place on, Saturday, when about 60 ladies and gen- ■' tlemen were present. The generously provided tea and refreshments, and the courts were in excellent order, new turf and many conveniences having been provided 6ince last season. We hope to be able to arrange a match with your club at exhibition time. An attempt has again been made to continue the cricket club, bat Saturday* .- attendance was not at all encouraging to those who have taken the matter in hand, very few putting in an appearance. No doubt this was partly owing to the open* ing of the tennis. Rev. Mr. Clark was unable to take evening service last night at the English Church, as he was suffering from a slight attack of fevenshness. It is reported that a friend of Mr. Clark is likely to be appointed to Hawera district, as M* Clark is favorably impressed with the district. The County Council will meet on Wednesday, to elect a chairman and to transact general business. November 21.
