By the passing of the new Counties Act, county councils have to take charge of all county roads, and are, therefore, entitled to deferred payment and perpetual lease thirds from lands which front on county roads. At present it is not decided which are the county roads in the Waimate district, and until this is decided all moneys accruing lroni deferred payment and perpetual lease lands fronting on to the roads in dispute and from the Ist January last, must be impounded until the extent of the county roads are defined. The total cost of road work in opening up these lands would be £15,010, of which i 7400 would be for metalling, or for work in connection with metalling. Mr. A.
