Death of Sir Thos. Gore Browne.
(special to press association) LONDON, April 19. Obituary — Sir Thomas Gove Browne formerly Governor of New Zr-alan>l : aged 82. Sir Thomas Gore Browne. K.C.M.G., was born m 1807 ; entered the Army at tbe ajje of IG, and served for many years with the 28th Regiment ; acted as aide-de-camp to Lord Nugpnt, and was for some time Colonial Secretary. In 1836 Major Gore Jirowne exchanged into the 41st Regiment, aud served timing the occupation oi Afghanistan. U© lie]J Lhe command of his r< giuieut at the batcles of Gandalar, Ghuzhee, Gabul, andhisgillantay and humanity were such tlv.\t he obtained a lieutenant-colonelcy and was made a C.B. In 1854 Colonel Gore Browne was appointed Governor of New Zealand, and in 18(31, havio» completed his term of office, was succeeded by Sir George Grey, and he himf-elf succeeded Sir Henry Young as Governor of Tasmania. He resigned the last-mentioned offiice in 1869, wben he was created a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St. George. Sir Thomas was appointed Governor of Bermuda in 1870, and resigned that post m 1882.
