PALMERSTON, N., April 21. At the Police Court, this morning, J. Ryan a hig powerful man, was tinect £10 , 'I or two months imprisonment for being iSrank in the square while in possession of loaded firearms. The man had a loaded >. '^revolver and a large knife which he carried in his belt ; as he was violently drunk he was a very dangerous character, and was only arrested after a severe struggle. WANGANUI, April 20. Anglique Therease was brought up for ' sentence. Inspector James produced telegraphic answers to inquiries he had ■*noade as to prisoner's previous character, which were unfavourable to accused. His Honor said that if accused bad been leading a respectable life lately, be would not have taken much notice of the previous conviction. Hay, a well-known solicitor, committed suicide yesterday afternoon by Cutting his'throat. He was living with Ms IJister, who left him in tbe house.
