WELLINGTON, July 7.
Application for a mandamus to compel tho Cook Licensing Committee to giant a renewal of license to the Prince of Wales Hotel, Tory-street, was argued in the Supreme Court to-day. Justice Richmond held that the committee was a tribunal, appointed by the Legislature, aud the Supreme Court could not interfere. His Honor took time to consider whether it was necessary to hear the Attorney-Gene-ral on behalf of the committee.
AUCKLAND, July 8. The offices of the Colonial Mutual Life Association were broken into and the safe rifled by burglars.
Benjamin and Alice Kay, ot Tauranga, ha\e been acquitted of tbe "charge of arson.
HOKITIKA., July 8. Win. Holmes, conch driver, is missing, lie went out pigeon shooting, and a search party heard groans in an old shaft. They arc making preparations to get him out.
Hot springs have been discovered at Cook's mer, a short distance below the glacier.
