Tuesday, May 18. In the Legislative Assembly,

Mr. Buckley said tbe Government were unable to take the Is duty off the' book containing Mr. Stout's speech at the doss of the exhibition. It will shortly be in the hands of the members. Mr. Barnicoat- moved the Address-in-Beply, and said he believed the Speech would meet with the approval of all classes ef the community. He traversed the Speech, and said the Government were entitled to, the thanks of the. colony for farthering manufactures and products in a manner in which bad brought them before tbe world. The colony should rejoice that the East and West Coast railway was to be undertaken. Mr. Shrimski seconded the motion, and congratulated the oolony on tbe steady progress being made. Referring to tbe South Sea Islands, he hoped the Government would not annex them merely for trading purposes. The motion was carried. , :•
