Resolved, That applications contained therein be acoeded to. — From Property Tax Department, BegistrarGeneral, and from Treasury, of having paid £250 to board's credit. Outwards, to Messrs. E. O'Sullivan, H. D. Sander, F. H. Alexander, J. Watkins, and Humphries and Dillon. The overseer reported that the new office will be completed in two weeks. . Resolved, That tenders be called for works on Punehu, Waiteiaka, and Kaweora roads ; teuders to be called and opened on the 29 tb, at Babotu. The question arose re insufficient publicity being given as regards the election, Mr. Middleton pointing out that the Hawera Stab was the paper liberally supported at the southern end, and that very few Taranaki papers were ever sent down there. He certainly considered for the future the Star should not be overlooked. The expense might seem heavy, but it certainly could not be considered so, as it created competition, and the board actually saved money by the transaction. Mr. Syme urged likewise to bave advertisements in both Taranaki weeklies instead of the daylies, but no one would move in the matter. It is understood, however, that tbere will be an alteration in f utnre. The Star arrirefrra Opunake every evening, and great complaints had been made in Opnnake, ratepayers not knowing an election was taking place,

I have not seen them, but I hear they are out of the common — a first-class bull in particular. Things are going -on- very up here. Mr.luspeotor Pardy is down occasionally. I hear there is to be a new hotel bnilt at Pungarehn, : and a blacksmith's shop, another store, bakery, and butcher's shop. Then it will be quite a little village, .with Che telegraph office and oolioe station. The proprietor of the 'present hotel,'- Mr. Mills; finds that >bf supplying good liquor there is a- fair business doing. Mr. Mills has started butchering, also, atPangarehu. . j
