(ntoir oxm own cobbbsponpint.) Cablyle, Tuesday. The Oarrick Club gives a dramatic performance in the Town Hall on Thursday, and judging from the rehearsal, it is likely to be moat successful. The proceeds will to devoted to the purchase of properties tor the society. A return matoh between elevens of the banks and public works, and eleven of the cricket club, was played on Saturday, in rather moist weather. For the banks, Ice.. Tennent and Heenan played carefully for their 19 and 27. The other side bad to bat in midst of a steady rainfall, which effectually kept down scoring. The following are the total scores : — Banks, to., 79; Club, 88. At the monthly meeting of the Harbor Board, held yesterday, the new wharf and catttayardft were inspected, and an. account of £470, due to the contractor for work done since last payment, was passed. A letter was read from Messrs. Thomson, Tregear, and Eraser, applying for a release from their engagement as lessees of a piece " of land on the town side of the Fatea river. - The annual rental is £108 IBs, and, aitorgether, over £200 have been paid to the hoard, for which the lessees have had no return. The chairman was in favor of granting an extension of time,* but the other members present were of opinion that the board would act unwisely were they to cancel such obligations. A heavy fresh in the river since Saturday has been the means of widening and deepening the entrance, as well as partially removing the bend in the spit. The s.s.
