THANKSGIVING SERVICE

On Sunday afternoon a Citizens' Thanksgiving Service to mark the conclusion of hostilities in Europe was held in the Recreation Ground pavilion. The beautiful service was unfortunately not largely supported by the public, the seating accommoda tion being only about half full at the commencement of the service. The service was conducted by the combined Ministers, and the Mayor read the first Scripture Lesson, Members of the City Council and other local bodies were in attendance. An inspiring address was given by the Rev. Michael Underbill, a returned padre, who spoke of many experiences in the Lybian campaign and of the many causes for thankfulness to God for His many mercies. Great praise is due to the Combined Church Choirs under the baton of Mr. A. V. Stamp, with Mr. A. Aclcroyd at the piano, for their magnificent rendering of the Hallelujah Chorus. The service concluded with the Act of Dedication and the Benediction. The accompaniment for the hymns
