Rehabilitation
OPERATIONS DURING APRIL
Loan applications recommended by the Lower Hutt Rehabilitation Finance Committee for the month preceding the April meeting were: Residential erections 9, purchase of houses 6, furniture 20, business 3, and miscellaneous 2. Two cases were dealt with by the Trade Training Committee, both applicants being placed iu subsidised employment with private employers. At the meeting of the full committee Mr. C E. Moran asked whether anything further had been heard concerning the appointment of a permanent 'Rehabilitation Officer to the district. Mr. H. Coombs, M.P explained that he, together with the Hon. W. Nash, were awaiting an interview with the Minister of Rehabilitation on this question and he hoped that he would be in the position to report to the committee at its May meeting. It was agreed that the committee should make every effort to bring about the desired appointment. While allocations of State Rental Houses had increased somewhat for March and April the position is far from satisfactory, there still being approximately 400 unsatisfied exservicemen in the district. A letter was received from the Minister of Works, advising that the committee's representations concerning a fairer , allocation of essential fittings for State Rental Houses had been con- i sidered and it had been decided that, ; the Housing Department would now issue Priority Delivery Schedules to j manufacturers, thus ensuring that < electric ranges, baths, etc., would t ,only be supplied to those houses - which are otherwise complete. It was felt that this removes one of - the causes of delay in completion of ] the houses. <
