CHARITY BALL.

A WONDERFUL \SITCOBSS.

FUND BENEFIT'S BY £250

King George Theatre presented a scene of extreme gaiety on Tuesday night when the long looked for Charity Ball took place. In the centre of the hall was a trellised pavilion scintillating- with coloured electric lights and gay with artificial blossom. Paseoe 's Orchestra occupied a dais in the pavilion, and their music contributed great ly to the success of the evening; Many hued streamers lined the hall, and we're suspended from \the ceiling to the, top of the pavilion, and to the galleries. Hutt residents responded splendidly to the appeal, for'the theatre was taxed to its utmost. Mr. Wallace was the very hard-working M.G., and the ladies committee,* in addition to their extremely arduous task of dealing with. , the huge crowd in the supper-room I (950 supper tickets were issued), were at the theatre till 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning and at it again, by 9 a.m the same day. T>ho supper-room presented a fairy-fake appearance" with its ex-1 quisite decorations. Lycopodium and streamers decorated the ceiling, arid the gay flags gave a charming touch, of colour, but surely^ for the decorations of tho tables, Hutt gardens nrast have contributed of their best, for they were a picture of loveliness with theiT spring blooms of violets, anemones and maid-en-hair, and crowning all, each table had for its' centre-piece a big basket of gorgeous tangerine iceland poppies and red birch, and at the end of eacH ta/ble, on higih. stands, were huge bowls of the most wonderful wattle-^the product of a local garden. And thje fare with which the tables were laden was— : as someone was heard to say-^—wonder-ful! '• ■ ..
