SCHOOL CHAMPIONS.

An interesting event took place at the Eastern Hutt School last JFriday morning when Mx. W. Nash, M.P., presented the swimming trophies won by the school during the year. Mr. W. E. Dickinson, acting headmaster, read apologies from Hon H. Atmore, Minister of Education, Mr, A. Mcßean Principal of the school, and Mr. W. V; iDyer, chairman of the School Committee. Mr. Dickinson1 who r expressed his pleasure and his thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Nash for attending the ceremony, also introduced Mr. Oldershawr, hon. secretary of the Wellington Swimming Centre. Mr. Oldershaw expressed his pleasure at the keen interest displayed hy, the school in swimming and said that if other schools would take the same interest the Wellington Centre would prodiuce some of the'finest junior swimmers in New Zealand. interest of any club in the Wellington Centre, in ■ furthering the interests of

junior swimmers.

Mr. Nash, M.P:, congratulated the teams on their success and spoke of the art of swimming, particularly in its relation to life saving. He also pointed out the advantages of team work, which, he said is what "makes the world worth living in.* 7 Mr.Wash also said that the teachers of all the schools in the Hutt Valley owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Penhatt, the custodian of the KAddiford Baths who devoted a great deal of 'time to instructing the young ia the art of swimming.
