THE MINING REVIVAL.

AN AUSTRALIA.If OPINION. The Australian Mining Standard of 28th September, speaking of the revival of mioing in the Thames Peninsula, says:— "So far as we can gather the ' boom,' as it is locally styled, has a much more solid and satisfactory foundation than is often the case; and there is nothing to suggest that it wi'l ba ephemeral. That the country is rich, there can bo no question; the Thames is the best proof of that. That it ia extensive is equally well determined, for the country is dotted with mining camps. A long period of stagnation, loss of capital, rvant of confidence —these have all helped to repress any mining development-; and, as events have proved, elsewhere a3 in New Zealand, they have also brought about those very conditions which are most favourable to mining progress. The depression acted as a stimulant to the prospector in one country, while it caused men of means in another to seek some opportunity of winning more, and the two cot. ditions together have favoured the restoiation of confidence without which mining cannot exist. The solid and satisfactory foundation to the present activity we see in the tendency to unite small hidings in proved aun« ferous districts) and ia the disposition to provide capital, sufficient to thoroughly develop aad equip tkooe amalgamated areas."
