FOOTBALL.
Rotobua v. Tatuanga. The return match between these two teams took plaice in tho Tauranga Do j main on Saturday last, and eventuated iu another victory for the coast men by 11 points to 3. The Rev. Mr Ashcroft acted as referee, and gave entire satisfaction. The ball was started at 3 15 p. m„ and though then; were numerous narrow escapes, no points were scored for either side during the first spell. Not long after the resumption of play Vercoe secured a try for Tauranga whichwas not convoluted. Heavy scrums took place, and strenuous efforts were made on both sides to get the ball away, and though the Rotorua goal was menaced with much pertinacity, the defence was brilliant. At length Vercoe secured another try, which Mathcspn converted. From a free kick Norris then secured a goal, bringing the score to 11. Both teams were by this time showing signs of distress, the Pntorua. men. perhaps, lasting the best, the ball being kept close to the Tauranga goal line. By a pretty piece; of passing Jordan got in and obtained tin; first and only scow; for Rotorua. This, however, was not converted and the whistle sounding immediately afterwards fhc game closed ■ — Tauranga 11, Rotorua, 3. Messrs W. H. Martin and Darragh acted as line umpires. H. Tanner had to retire from tho game owing to a bad kick on tlio knee.
