BUSINESS IMPROVES; UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES.

Despite the unmistakable business improvement ‘his, the wealthiest city in the nation, announces an increase of 17 per cent, in the number of families on relief within the year. Exnergexrcy relief bureaux now carry 393,000 families, or more than 1,500,000 persons, approximately a fourth of the population. Employment has not kept pac& with the improved business conditions throughout the nation. The American Federation of Labour announces that the unemployed at the end of December were still 11,401,00 persons Gold Flow Restarts From America Received Sunday, /.JO p.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 8. The gold export to Europe started again to-day as the dollar dipped below the gold point. The franc was quoted at (USO 3-8 and the gilder at 68,20 cents. 3,050,000 dollars were consigned to France and 885,000 dollars toHolland, making the total exports for the movement 20,613,000 dollars.
